Barely 10 days after the Sunway-sponsored Stop Hunger Now (“SHN”) 40,000 meals packing event, on 28th June, BeCause members joined hands again with SHN, this time along with OCBC and Rotary Club of Georgetown and Pudu to pack 240,000 meals in 6 hours.
While the main event was not short of volunteers, the response was not so good for the preparation works and setting up which had to be done the night before to ensure all was ready by the next morning. Work could only proceed after 10 pm when the shops at Sunway Pyramid had closed. BeCause members responded to the call and 8 members joined with about a dozen other volunteers to work through the night.
After catching a few hours sleep, all woke up early to make it to the main event the following day to ensure its success. Salute to all these volunteers who were there when help was needed most!
The main event was a riot of colors and noise as people from all walks of life came to join the packing lines. All in all about 600 volunteers of all ages including families took part. From the smiles on their faces, one could see it was jolly good fun! Most of our BeCause members became marshals/ supervisors due to having prior experience. One of our committee members had signed up to become a Stop Hunger Now ‘Chef’. Excellent initiative!
Was the event a success? The pictures here say it all!
Wednesday 18th June was a day to remember. 10 BeCause members joined hands with Stop Hunger Now (SHN) and 250 Sunway staff to pack meals for 3 charities at Sunway Pyramid. The event was graced by Sunway Group’s Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Dato Razman M Hashim and Puan Sri Susan Cheah, amongst other VIPs.
It all started when President of SHN Mr Tiki Keh approached our VP Mr Kevin Tan (who happens to be the COO of Sunway Pyramid) to request for a space in the shopping mall to do a sponsored meal packing event for 200,000 meals. After several meetings, not only was the space secured, but the Sunway CSR Head took an interest and managed to convince the Sunway group to take part in a similar event by sponsoring 40,000 meals which will go to Myanmar Refugees Students Camp, Alliance of Chin Refugees and Reach Out Malaysia.
BeCause is very happy to be instrumental in making the events happen. By doing so, it can added another milestone in its objectives of bringing together the needy and those who can help through the resources and contacts of its members.
Besides participating in the actual 3-hour meal packing, BeCause members also learnt hands-on how to set up the packing lines and the logistics involved in staging such an event . Some members have indicated their wish to become certified SHN “Chefs” to help and support SHN’s endeavour to stop global hunger within our lifetime – a noble objective shared by BeCause.
Yes, together we can make a difference !
